I decided I wanted to reread the Twilight Saga, and write about my reaction to the story now being an adult rather than a preteen. So, with My Chemical Romance on in the background I picked up Twilight and started this trip into nostalgia just right.
The first chapter was just as enticing as it ever was. I immediately got sucked back in, but only had time to read the first chapter so this post will be rather short.
It is so much fun being introduced to the characters again. The awkwardness of Bella is intensely relatable now, and reading the book again resonated the argument in me that she was such a well developed character that the movies didn't do justice. Kirsten Stewart did not deserve the backlash she received for playing the role when the script drained the character of any personality – this is a topic for a different post, so I'll drop it here. But the books did do a really good job of building the personalities of each character and I know I'm going to love getting to know them all over again.
I noticed a few things that I definitely overlooked before, there are scenes that allude to the fact Edward can't read Bella's thoughts (the lunchroom on the first day and in the office when he's trying to get his schedule changed). But of course there were also things I couldn't forget that entertained me as much as my first time reading. Like Bella smelling herself in biology, and Mike instantly showing his interest in Bella. Poor Mike... excuse me as I remember the events that are to come... I don't know if I'll ever be prepared for that uncomfortable movie "date" in the second book. But even that slightly cringe scene in mind has me excited to make progress in the story.
I'll have a couple of chapters read for the next post (she says to no one) I just really want to document my reactions to the series and the comparisons I'm going to make to how I felt about it when I was younger. If anyone wishes to come along for this ride, welcome, please share any comments you have to my thoughts on the series~ :)
